Magazine

"The printed magazine survives, and in contrast to its commercial format, we also have a more experimental production, following the same path as books, with small print runs and material exploration, in a 'revival' of zines and fanzines from the 1980s." DOMICIANO, Cassia Leticia Carrara. Editorial Products and Design: Convergences and Transformations. Bauru, [s. l.], 2020.

What is Antropojogo?

A magazine that analyzes video games through an anthropological, cultural, and scientific lens. The name comes from “Antropo”, a prefix derived from the Greek ánthrōpos, which means “human being” or “man” (It appears in words that refer to something related to humans, such as anthropology) and “Jogo”, a portuguese word that comes from the Latin jocus (meaning "game" or "play").

Developed for my Graduation Paper at the São Paulo State University (UNESP). Designed to offer a mature and analytical perspective on modern gaming culture.

Concept & Research

Antropojogo is a magazine focused on the broad videogame industry public, with a wide range of audience that is interested in gaming discussions trough a more analytical aspect of the human experience.

The concept is inspired by classic videogame magazines, while observing how these games impact our daily lives and social links, games as a form of art, the impactful storytelling, developments of the industry and technology such as the emergence of Virtual Reality, among other themes.

To bring the project to life, I designed both digital and printed versions of the magazine making sure the reading experience worked well on screen and physical format. For the printed version, I carefully selected paper, typography, and binding to ensure a high-quality finish of a more “limited edition” touch on the final product.

Conclusion

Antropojogo is the result of the urge to create the magazine that my inner child would like to read, after learning some things. I grew up playing videogames with brothers, cousins and friends and it always has been a strong point of connection between me and people I love and care about.
